* To all Sarawakian, it's enough for Sarawak got only 2 minister post although Sarawak give the most of BN win in General election. Why only Sabah can get 4 minister? Sarawak need one more minister..why not appointment Datuk Joseph Salang as Minister....or appointment Jelaing Mersat as full minister..why Datuk Anifah Aman? A lot of Sarawak MP can be full minister...

Dayak - Let us pursue unity and not fight

Pursuing merger among Dayak based party

I am sorry to say but I am not 100% favor UMNO, PKR, etc. to further divide the Dayaks. I would be more in favor of pursuing unity and merger among the Dayak base parties such as PRS and SPDP. I wish to see that all Dayaks should group into one party like similar to UMNO, MCA and MIC. This may not happen in Taib’s era but time will change and perhap one day it happens.

There is still hope that we can be in one party

The current Dayak leaders who are constantly bickering, scheming, competing with each other will eventually be phased out although some more funny characters will surface. But like people say, politic is so liquid, anything can happen, therefore for me there is still hope to eventually get something like MDC.

At this moment we are still not able to overcome the “divide and rule” modus of operandi which has been systematically administered to our society since the fall of Kalong Ningkan.

It is painful to be in Opposition

History from PBDS has taught us that it is painful to be an opposition in Sarawak and beside the ever so powerful “divide and rule” had resulted in Dayaks/Ibans unwilling to make sacrifices in order to support Dayakism. Thus we see our leaders like Dr James, Dato Salang , etc. are with BN not only for own political sakes but for the rakyat as well. Ibans/Dayaks cannot afford to be left out completely from Gov’t as our bottom line is bread on the table.

Money politic is about holding to power

The determination to win election or money politics are simply part of the efforts to hold on to power and keep on with the present regime. It is tough to fight this without strong support like what PBDS had once upon a time. PKR will not be able to garner similar support from the Dayaks. Dayakbaru will remain frustrated. Ex-PBDS die hard fighters like Datuk Tajem, Baru Bian, Telajan, Adit, Augustine, etc. will soldier on. In the midst of it all will create some sort of organised challenges such that BN need to be on their toes - or like what happen in BA.

Fighting among Best of Friends

However, in such midst, if we are not careful, we will forget to look at the bigger picture. We will continue to end up fighting one another within friends and families. We have seen Salang fought Jawah in Batang Ai, yet they are actually the best of friends. It is easy to fall into the pit without realising how you end up there in the first place.

We cannot get rid of each other

I have heard before that in order to unit the Dayaks, we have to get rid of BN Dayaks. While it is theoritically correct, like Shakespeare said “Long live the king, kill the king!”, our Dayak population is simply too small to be able to have enough credible Dayak leaders in the stature of Leo Moggie, Linggi or even Salang. Therefore when you kill them, you will end up with no many left. Surely you would say, pls don’t under estimate the many educated and capable younger generation, sure, but to garner the grassroot support, bloggers like you and I won’t be so effective. We need the already establised personalities whether you like it or not.

I believe we should pursue unity, lets don’t fight, lets enquire and discover instead of critising. We should use all available avenues to promote unity such as SDNU, SDGA, etc. We should free these kind of organisations from politic.

Conclusion

We should continue to harbour hope to have a party like MDC and that all that Dayaks will group into this with proper concensus from the Gov’t coalition.

Tsu Koon – Super Minister or Superfluous Minister in Najib Cabinet?

Gerakan Youth leader Lim Si Ping yesterday hailed the Gerakan President, Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon as the “Super Minister” in the Najib Cabinet who is tasked with monitoring the performance of the other 28 Ministers.

Is Tsu Koon a Super Minister or Superfluous Minister in the Najib Cabinet?

If one is to strike out the most superfluous Minister in the 29-member Najib Cabinet without causing any ripples of having to find a replacement, it will be difficult to find another candidate than Tsu Koon and his portfolio.

How pathetic – to end up as a Superfluous Minister when he should be a Super Minister after 18 years as Penang Chief Minister, especially as he is the most senior Barisan Nasional government leader in the Najib Cabinet after the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyideen Yassin and Information, Communication, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Rais Yatim.

He is even more senior as Barisan Nasional government leader than the other Umno leaders including Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Rural Development and Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, International Trade and Industry Minister, Datuk Seri Mustapha Mohamad and Minister in PM’s Department (Law and Parliament) Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, not to mention the MCA President and Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat, the MIC Minister for Human Resources, Dr. S. Subramaniam or the Minister for Agricultural Development and Commodities, Tan Sri Bernard Dompok.

As a flyweight in the Najib Cabinet, who will believe Tsu Koon can wield the powers and influence to monitor the performance particularly of Umno heavyweights like Muhyiddin, Hishammuddin, Zahid or Shafie Apdal – when as Penang Chief Minister, he could not exercise authority or influence over Penang Umno divisions or branches, as illustrated by the “Chinese are squatters” political scandal precipitated by the Umno Bukit Bendera division chairman, Ahmad Ismail during the Permatang Pauh by-election last August?

However Gerakan national leaders are not so naive like the Gerakan Youth chief as to believe that Tsu Koon has become a Super Minister, which is why the Gerakan Central Working Committee in its statement on April 10 welcoming the Gerakan President’s appointment into the Cabinet through the “backdoor” of Parliament was careful to touch only on Tsu Koon’s role to monitor the performance of the 40 Deputy Ministers, omitting all reference to Ministers.

Clearly even the Gerakan CWC knows that it is ludicrous to expect a flyweight like Tsu Koon to monitor the ministerial performance of Umno heavyweights like Muhyiddin, Hishammuddin, Zahid or Shafie Apdal.

Never mind about being the “monitor” for the other Ministers on their Key Performance Indicators to gauge their respective ministerial performance and achievements.

Is Tsu Koon prepared to set a KPI example for the rest of the Cabinet by being the first to make public the framework and structure of the KPI to evaluate the success or otherwise of his carrying out of the Ministerial portfolio to promote national unity?

Najib had said when announcing his new Cabinet that he has created a separate portfolio in the PM’s Department to oversee national unity which will “adopt creative approaches towards promoting national unity, in line with the concept of One Malaysia. People First. Performance Now.”

In other words, whether Najib’s slogan of “One Malaysia. People First. Performance Now” succeed or fail as miserably as those of his predecessors, like Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s “Cemerlang, Gemilang, Terbilang” and Dr. Mahathir Mohamad’s “Amanah, Berseh, Cekap” , will be on Tsu Koon’s shoulders.

Is this what Gerakan Youth leader meant when he said Tsu Koon is the Super Minister in the Najib Cabinet?

How can the Malaysian public evaluate Tsu Koon’s KPI to assess the success or failure in ensuring that Najib’s “1Malaysia. People First. Performance Now” is instantly the overarching philosophy of the Najib government in all fields and not just empty rhetoric?

Is Tsu Koon able to come out with a website without any delay so that Malaysians who have complaints about the failures of the government in measuring up to Najib’s “1Malaysia. People First. Performance Now” slogan can lodge their complaints and seek immediate redress?

Bukit Selambau: Satu Sejarah

CALON BN dan PKR..Datuk S.Ganesan dan calon PKR S.Manikumar akan berhadapan dengan saingan 13 calon Bebas yang turut bertanding di DUN Bukit Selambau.

Bukit Selambau: Banyaknya calon Bebas bertanding pada pilihan raya kecil Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Bukit Selambau 7 April depan adalah manifestasi suasana politik di Kedah yang masih tidak menentu, kata penganalisis politik tempatan hari ini.

Dr Azeem Fazwan Ahmad Faruq, pensyarah sains politik Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) berkata 13 calon Bebas yang bertanding bersama calon Barisan Nasional Datuk S.Ganesan dan calon Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) S.Manikumar akan mengakibatkan undi berpecah kepada banyak calon.

"Tetapi sekiranya BN menang, maknanya trend pengundi berubah kepada BN selepas kalah di Kuala Terengganu dan Permatang Pauh. Inilah yang diingini BN iaitu melihat perubahan trend pengundi," katanya kepada Bernama di sini.

Dr Azeem Fazwan berkata penyertaan banyak calon Bebas mungkin mencerminkan wujudnya perpecahan ekoran tidak dapat menerima calon yang dikemukakan parti dominan seperti PKR dan BN.

"Apabila parti bertanding memberi calon yang pada pandangan kumpulan tertentu tidak dapat diterima oleh mereka, maka timbullah calon Bebas... cuma sukar dipastikan mereka didalangi oleh sesiapa.

"Ini menunjukkan masyarakat itu berpecah kepada banyak puak," katanya.

Beliau berkata jika BN menang, ia juga boleh diterjemahkan sebagai penerimaan pengundi Bukit Selambau terhadap barisan baru pucuk pimpinan Umno yang dipilih pada Perhimpunan Agung yang baru berakhir.

Bagaimanapun, katanya, isu di Bukit Selambau lebih merupakan permasalahan tempatan dan bukannya isu nasional.

Beliau menjangka perpecahan dalaman PKR ketika kini mampu memberikan kelebihan kepada BN untuk menang.

Dr Azeem Fazwan menjangka pengundi Melayu yang merupakan separuh daripada 35,140 pemilih berdaftar bakal menjadi penentu pada 7 April nanti.

Ini kerana, katanya "mood" pengundi India yang merupakan 29.5 peratus pengundi sukar diramal walaupun ada kecenderungan mereka bersikap "antiestablishment".

"Tetapi kita tidak boleh jangka juga kerana mood mungkin berubah selepas Kedah dikuasai kerajaan Pas sejak pilihan raya umum tahun lepas," katanya.

Pengundi Cina pula merupakan 19.3 peratus manakala yang lain mewakili satu peratus daripada jumlah pengundi.

Pensyarah di Pusat Pengajian Sejarah, Politik dan Strategi Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Prof Madya Dr Ahmad Nidzammuddin Sulaiman menyifatkan banyaknya calon Bebas memberi peluang kepada BN memenangi pilihan raya kecil itu.

"BN mempunyai saluran kempen yang lebih meluas berbanding calon Bebas yang ramai. Kebanyakan pengundi Bukit Selambau tinggal di pedalaman dan jumlah calon Bebas yang ramai boleh mengelirukan mereka," katanya.

Beliau juga setuju bahawa perpecahan dalam PKR juga sedikit sebanyak membantu calon BN untuk menang.

Bagaimanapun Ahmad Nidzamuddin tidak menafikan kemungkinan calon Bebas memenangi kerusi Bukit Selambau berdasarkan keputusan pada pilihan raya umum 8 Mac tahun lepas.

Sementara itu, tokoh sejarah Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Khoo Kay Kim berkata penyertaan calon Bebas yang banyak itu tidak pernah berlaku dalam sejarah politik tanah air.

"Saya tak tau apa strategi di sebalik semua ini. Politik dulu bukan macam sekarang kerana orang dulu tak begitu kompleks," katanya.

Beliau berkata kebiasaannya pilihan raya akan melibat pertandingan dua atau tiga penjuru sahaja.

Khoo berkata, ada ketikanya terdapat percaturan untuk menggalakkan seorang calon Bebas bertanding bagi memecah undi dan mereka sering kali ditaja oleh pihak tertentu tetapi sekarang ini dengan 13 calon Bebas, ia sudah menjadi terlampau kompleks.

Calon Bebas yang bertanding ialah R. Loganathan (lambang kelapa sawit), Tan Hock Huat (kunci), Radzi Md Lazim (kerusi), Mohd Fadzil Abdul Wahab (kepala harimau), Abdul Rahim Abu (jam loceng), L. Sarala (basikal), A. Jayagopal (payung), S. Moganakumar (buku), Khamis Awang (ayam jantan), Husaini Yaacob (bas), M. Vanesan (ikan), Mejar (B) Anuar Abd Hamid (telefon) dan T.Chandrarajan (kapal terbang).

Pilihan raya kecil DUN Bukit Selambau diadakan berikutan perletakan jawatan V. Arumugam (PKR) pada 8 Feb lepas.
Arumugum memenangi kerusi itu atas tiket Bebas dengan menewaskan calon BN S. Krishnan dengan majoriti 2,362 undi.

The spectre of global warming is now threatening human kind. We are Anak Sarawak, Bangsa Malaysia, but we are also citizens of the global village. Pollution and Carbon emission know no national border, so we have to do our bit in our daily life to live a greener existence. We must learn to reuse, reduce, and recycle.

Unfortunately, environment destruction on a massive scale is occurring in our backyard in the form of indiscriminate logging all over Sarawak. Forests are heat pumps of the Earth, absorbing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and releasing life-supporting oxygen back to mankind.

The wanton destruction of God-given forests for quick personal gains is immoral.

Who are given the timber concessions in Sarawak? I have no access to such a list. An old list I got many years ago read like the list of who-is-who in the Sarawak politico-corporate circle. These few individuals have become immensely rich while the great majority of rural people, the Dayaks, the Malays, and the Melanaus, are still stuck in the quagmire of socio-economic backwardness.

While I ponder upon this ugly inequality in darkness for one hour to-night, I will pray for the political change that must come to Sarawak, to return power to all Anak Sarawak.
